How Fly.io's pricing works: per-second Machines, volumes, data transfer by region, Managed Postgres and support plans, with worked monthly examples.
1. How Fly.io charges
Fly.io has no monthly plans. You pay for what you run: Machines by the second while they're running, storage on what you provision, and data leaving your app. Figures from Fly.io's pricing page and docs, checked on November 1, 2026. Machine prices here are for Ashburn (iad) and Secaucus (ewr), Fly.io's lowest-priced regions; other regions cost more.
New organizations don't get a free tier. A trial gives up to 2 hours of Machine runtime or 7 days, whichever comes first, without a card.
2. Machine prices
Monthly prices for a Machine running all month:
- shared-cpu-1x, 256 MB: $2.19
- shared-cpu-2x, 512 MB: $4.39
- shared-cpu-4x, 1 GB: $8.78
- shared-cpu-8x, 2 GB: $17.55
- performance-1x, 2 GB: $33.00
- performance-2x, 4 GB: $66.00
- performance-4x, 8 GB: $132.01
- performance-16x, 32 GB: $528.02
Extra memory on any preset is $6 per GB a month, up to 128 GB. A stopped Machine costs only its root file system, $0.15 per GB a month. Reserving a year of compute in one region gives a 40% discount: for example, $36 a year buys $5 a month of shared Machine credit.
3. Storage, data transfer and extras
- Volumes: $0.15 per GB a month of provisioned size, attached or not
- Volume snapshots: $0.08 per GB a month, first 10 GB free
- Outbound data: $0.02 per GB in North America and Europe, $0.04 in Asia Pacific, Oceania and South America, $0.12 in Africa and India
- Private traffic between regions: from $0.006 per GB; traffic within a region is free
- Dedicated IPv4: $2 a month. Shared IPv4 and IPv6 are free.
- SSL certificates: first 10 single-hostname certificates free, then $0.10 a month each; wildcards $1 a month
- Building images and storing them in Fly.io's registry: currently free
Private traffic between your own Machines in different regions costs $0.006 per GB in North America and Europe, $0.015 in Asia Pacific, Oceania and South America, and $0.050 in Africa and India. It's billed in both directions, each leg at the rate of the region it leaves, so a small request that returns a large response is billed mostly at the responding region's rate. These granular rates apply to organizations created after July 18, 2024; older ones pay the public internet rate unless they switch.
4. Managed Postgres and support
Managed Postgres plans include high availability, automated backups and connection pooling:
- Basic: $38 a month, shared-2x with 1 GB
- Starter: $72 a month, shared-2x with 2 GB
- Launch: $282 a month, performance-2x with 8 GB
- Scale: $962 a month, performance-4x with 32 GB
- Performance: $1,922 a month, performance-8x with 64 GB
Storage is $0.28 per GB used a month. Community support is free; paid support is $29 a month for Standard, $199 for Premium, and Enterprise from $2,500.
5. Sprites: pay only while it's awake
Sprites are Fly.io's other way to run code, with no plans, no tiers and no charge per Sprite. They're metered per hour of active use:
- CPU: $0.0385 per CPU-hour of actual CPU use
- Memory: $0.021875 per GB-hour of actual memory use
- Hot storage: $0.50 per GB a month, billed while the Sprite is awake
- Cold storage: $0.02 per GB a month, billed until you delete the data
That suits work that runs in bursts. For a website that has to answer visitors at any hour, Machines are the usual choice.
6. Worked examples
- The smallest always-on app: one shared-cpu-1x Machine with 256 MB, $2.19 for 30 days, plus outbound data.
- A small app with a volume: a 512 MB Machine ($3.69) and a 10 GB volume ($1.50) is $5.19 a month, Fly.io's own figure.
- The same app with Managed Postgres: add Basic at $38 plus storage, and you're near Fly.io's estimate of about $44 a month.
- Traffic: a site sending 200 GB a month to visitors in Europe adds $4.
7. Limits worth knowing
- There's no free allowance for new organizations after the trial.
- Volumes are billed on their provisioned size, even when the Machine is stopped.
- Prices change by region, and cross-region private traffic is billed in both directions.
- Organizations can hit automated scaling limits, which you raise by emailing Fly.io.
8. How to keep your Fly.io bill down
- Let Machines auto-stop when idle: a stopped Machine costs only its root file system.
- Run in the cheapest region that suits your users.
- Keep the app and its database in the same region, where traffic between them is free.
- Reserve compute for steady workloads to get 40% off.
9. Where Cloudzyro fits
Fly.io is flexible and cheap at the small end, but the bill moves with every Machine, volume and gigabyte. If you'd rather know your price in advance, Cloudzyro charges a flat price per site with compute and traffic included. Launch is free, never sleeps and allows business use, with 1 CPU, 512 MB of memory and 100 GB of traffic. Boost is $20 a month per site with 2 CPUs, 2 GB and 1 TB. Bring your database from Supabase or Neon through the Database tab. See Sites & Apps and Host a Node.js app.
